Vacation at Grandma and Grandpa's

Caleb spent some time at Grandma's this week instead of at daycare. He had so much fun!! He spent a lot of time practicing his favorite words, ball and uh-oh. Grandpa thinks he is saying 'grandpa' now too..but maybe it's wishful hearing! He also called Ollie 'kitty' the whole time.


Finally, after weeks and weeks of sleeping problems, Caleb slept through the night the last two nights in a row! I am crossing my fingers that this is for real. It's been over a week since he had tubes put in, so his ears should be feeling normal again.

Caleb's surgery

Caleb had surgery yesterday to put in the ear tubes. It went so well. I am so proud of our little man. Marshall and I got to go into the OR with him while they put him under. It was hard to watch that part but I knew he'd be more scared if we weren't there too. Marshall held his hands while he fell asleep and he didn't fuss or cry at all. The doctors were really impressed. The surgery took about 5 minutes and then the doctor came to talk to us. He said there was a lot of fluid in both ears, the left was worse than the right. The fluid had been there for a long time, so it was really plugging up his ear and making it hard for him to hear. The tubes should prevent that from happening again.


The initial recovery was kind of rough, Caleb wouldn't stop crying. They told us that was normal, though. Once we got home he was much better. He took a long nap and then was back to normal, playing and eating and being happy. He's having a little discomfort in his ears I think but tylenol is helping with that. He goes back to see the ENT and an audiologist to check hearing in a month.


I won't be able to share any pictures for awhile, our camera is broken. I'm not sure if we'll get it fixed or have to get a new one. Bummer!! Caleb is almost 11 months though, it's hard to believe we'll be celebrating a birthday in one month! He's starting to say new words now...mama, dada, ball, kitty, and uh-oh. It's so cute!

Caleb's ears

Caleb went to see an Ear, Nose & Throat specialist today. He is having surgery Tuesday, August 21st to put tubes in his ears. He had fluid that won't drain so it is constantly getting infected. The doctor said his ears are plugged all the time, like when you get a cold. It's probably affecting his hearing a little..although we haven't noticed any problems with that. I'm nervous about the surgery, but the doctor assured us it is a very simple procedure and it will be harder for us than it is for Caleb. I can't wait til it's over with and Caleb is healthy! He's been so good throughout all of this. Please keep him in your thoughts next week!!

So Big!

Caleb loves to show us how big is he!! Doing this at dinner time ends up with noodles or whatever food he is eating, in his hair!


Yesterday he had his ear check at the clinic and sure enough..both ears are still infected. We got a referral to see a pediatric ENT specialist and that appointment is next Wednesday. He also got a prescription for an antibiotic again and this one seems to work the best. Last night was the first night in WEEKS we slept through without getting up. I was SO happy!

Learning new tricks...

It seems like Caleb is doing new stuff every day! He is starting to say "kitty" whenever he sees our cat. He gets so excited about Kitty or when he visits Grandma and Grandpa and sees Ollie. He also knows what the cell phone is and will "talk" when you say Hello! He puts the phone or whatever he has in his hands up to his ear. He is getting really good at giving kisses and hugs. They are the sweetest hugs ever!!


This last weekend we visited with my family to celebrate my mom's birthday. We went out for dinner in Miltona (they were at the farm in Osakis) with my family and Grandma Waldvogel. Caleb was so well behaved and did so good eating! He even had some sherbert for dessert...although he threw some of it up later!


Tomorrow Caleb has his ear check up. I am pretty sure his ear infections haven't cleared up. He has a runny nose again and he has been sleeping terribly.

CALEB WALKING!!

A little wobbly, but he is walking!!! He's practically a toddler!

On the move!!

As you can see in the picture, Caleb is really figuring out how to get where he wants to go! We put the chair up to prevent him from escaping the living room..but it didn't take long for him to figure out how to move that. He also loves to play with daddy's dvds. Last night he took his FIRST REAL STEPS!! About 4 or 5 at a time...he kept waddling back and forth between me and Marshall. He looked so excited and pleased with himself. He would get too excited and then fall forward, laughing. It was so fun to help him with that milestone. Marshall and I were so glad to both be there to see it.

Caleb at the Zoo!

Last weekend Caleb had his first trip to the zoo! We went to Como Zoo and met my friend and her kids there. Caleb didn't quite understand what he was seeing but he had fun looking around. It was a little hot so we didn't last long! He is done with ear medication now but his teeth are really bothering him. I hope they come through quickly!
