Caleb Marshall Dean was born on September 24, 2006 at 3:46 a.m. after 14 hours of labor and 5 days past his due date. He was 9 lbs. 14.6 oz and 21 inches long.
We were very surprised to hear "IT'S A BOY!" I was pretty sure I was having a girl...we had not even decided for sure on a boy name so our baby was nameless for several hours!
Due to his rough entrance into this world Caleb had to stay in the NICU for 3 days. Initially it was just for a few hours, but after the doctor examined the placenta she thought Caleb might have swallowed some fluids. They wanted to give him antibiotics just in case he would develop an infection. I was pretty sad that we couldn't spend all our time with Caleb, he couldn't stay in our hospital room and we weren't able to really hold him for several hours. However, we were able to visit him often in the NICU and even bring other visitors with us.
