We had quite a scare with Caleb last Friday! He started acting very cranky and whiny in the afternoon and didn't want to play, just sit with Daddy. That night we noticed he wasn't using his left arm at all, just letting it hang by his side. He would cry if we tried to move it. Of course, this freaked us out...so I called his clinic and talked to the on-call doctor..she suggested coming to the ER right away. By this time it was nearly 9:00 (and about 15 degrees below zero!) and we headed to the ER. We had to wait several hours before an ER doctor finally just came out to see us in the waiting room. It was crowded and they didn't have a room available...we were grateful for such a thoughtful doctor. He examined Caleb's arm and promptly popped it back into place! He had "nursemaid's elbow" which is a dislocated elbow or shoulder that is common in young chidren. It happens because their joints are not fully developed...the dislocation can happen because of a pull on the arm or falling just the right way. We aren't even sure how it happened to Caleb, but now he is going to be prone to this happening again..we need to be extra careful in picking him up and doing anything with his arms. It took until Sunday for Caleb to start using his arm again. The doctor told us he might be feeling some discomfort, or he is just afraid to use it again. Caleb was such a good boy through all of this.
I have also been trying to finish up our daycare search...I visited three in-home places last week and now I'm trying to decide between two of them. I hope I am making the right decision. Daycare has been such a tricky thing for us!
